LEVEL 1 NEW MEXICO SECURITY OFFICER TRAINING

To be able to understand the basic Level 1 Security Guards’ legal authority and responsibilities, incident scene management, and preservation. The use of force continuum, know the appropriate use of force and de-escalation techniques. The appropriate search and seizure, legal restrictions, and civil liability, jurisdiction and limitations of authority, and how to communicate with local law enforcement.

LEVEL 2 NEW MEXICO SECURITY OFFICER TRAINING

To understand and demonstrate in a professional intermediate security guard framework, basic legal and practical knowledge of the use of force continuum, personal/employer liability, verbal and written communication skills, and conflict management, while learning new protocol for defensive impact weapons, restraint control devices, and chemical agents.

Students will be knowledgeable with and proficient in the practice of all safety procedures for the safe handling of firearms on duty, during training and at home, nomenclature, cleaning and function check of a revolver, nomenclature, cleaning and function check of a pistol, firearms ballistics, mental preparation for potential lethal confrontations, fundamentals of handgun marksmanship, techniques used for the handgun presentation, low ready, and holstering, techniques used to unload, load, chamber/press check, and de-cock of a revolver, techniques used to clear a revolver malfunction, techniques used to load, chamber/press check, de-cock, unload, tactical and speed reload of the semi-automatic pistol, techniques used to clear semiautomatic pistol malfunctions, techniques used for handgun retention, techniques used to engage threats.

This course provides guidance to individuals, including managers and employees, so that they can prepare to respond to an active shooter situation.

First Steps

Basic Pistol

The NRA Basic Pistol Class is the National Rifle Association’s response to the American public’s need for a firearm program for new shooters.

Concealed Carry Weapon Permit

During this NRA-certified course, students will learn the five firearms safety rules, firearms manipulation (semi-auto and revolvers), safe storage of handguns and child safety, safe handgun shooting fundamentals, ammunition storage, mental conditioning and tactics. Students will learn to recognize threats and understand proper judgment in shooting.

We will cover techniques for avoiding a criminal attack and how to control a violent confrontation, techniques for non-violent dispute resolution and knowing when to use deadly physical force. 

This course also covers federal, state and local criminal and civil laws pertaining to purchase, ownership, transportation, and use and possession of handguns.

This course will be taught in the classroom and at the range and requires 200 9mm rounds (not provided).

Students will receive a certificate of graduation complying with New Mexico state mandates.

What does New Mexico Guard Card training require? 

The state of New Mexico establishes the requirements for all three levels of Security Guard training.

Level 1

This training is the initial training for all New Mexico Security guards and focuses on observing and reporting. Training includes classroom and scenario-based training.

Participants learn:

·     All required training in accordance with NMSA1978 61-27B-1 through 61-27B-36

·     Rules and Regulations Title 16 Chapter 48 parts1-7

Requirements to participate:

·     Must be 18 years old

·     Background check conducted by the State during application processing.

Length of course: 8 hours

Level 2

This course builds on Level 1 and focuses on the use of force and liability. Training includes classroom training, practical training, and scenario-based training. As part of the course, all participants will be sprayed with OC spray, also known as pepper spray.

Participants learn:

·       All required training in accordance with NMSA 1978 61-27B-1 through 61-27B-36

·       Rules and Regulations Title 16 Chapter 48 parts 1-7

Requirements to participate:

·       Must be 21 years old

·       Completion of Level 1

Length of course: 20 hours

Level 3

This course builds in Level 1 andLevel 2 and covers deadly use of force and firearms. Training includesclassroom, practical, and range training, as well as scenario-based training.

250 rounds of ammunition are required and can be provided at extra cost.

Do I have to take Level 1 and Level 2 to register for Level 3?  

Yes, security guard card training courses build upon each other and must be taken sequentially.

How long is the Guard Card training good for?

Upon completion of each course, each student will receive a certification that is valid for 1 year.

Do I have to be sprayed with OC spray (pepper spray) in the Level 2 course?  

Yes. Being exposed to spray with OC spray is required so that students learn how to react to a situation when their senses are compromised. This process is conducted in a very safe manner and instructors will aid students in deactivating the OC spray.

The only exceptions are if students have proof that they have already been sprayed at another professional training school.

As a Level 3 graduate, do I need to shoot every year as part of my re-certification?  

Yes,  it is required that you shoot a qualified instructor every year to keep your skills sharp.
